We left Iowa on Oct 13th EARLY. I want to say like 4:30 in the morning. Our truck was PACKED! Inside and on top was to the brim.
Poor Soon to be BB (big brother) only had the space of his car seat to sit in.
So we left early and arrived in Dallas TX around 6 or so. We spent Thursday and Friday night at my aunt's house and left EARLY Saturday morning. We were on the road before 4 that day. We got to the border at Laredo around 11am and sat there for 3 hours until 2pm. And after BB wooed the soldiers who were at the check point, they thought it was amazing he spoke English, we were on our way. From the border to my mother-in-laws house in Jalisco, MX it took us until 11:40pm...LONG DAY! But it doesn't help when you have to stop every 45 minutes to an hour for a security check. I don't have pictures of the soldiers from our trip, its illegal to have cameras out on the border. But let me tell you they aren't anything to be messed with. Huge machine guns and 6-15 soldiers at each check point, in the middle of nowhere, you have to get out of your vehicle and let them search to their content.
When we finally got to the house we were exhausted, but super excited to be there and see Papa's family. BB went to Mexico understanding but not speaking Spanish so he wasn't clueless but he was tired and just restless and REALLY not wanting anything to do with these tan skinned people. (He's use to Iowa...we aren't all that tanned up here haha)
We also spent the first two weeks having picnics and parties in Papa's family's land. Beautiful place to go and hang out and relax or jump rope in this case.
BB also got his very first piñata of his own. He hit it for a good 7 minutes and gave up and decided to step on it. It was a green Lightning McQueen. Definitely a fun first two weeks.
I say it like that "fun first two weeks" because that's what it was. After that things kind of lost their fun. Between too full of a house, a husband who is too kind to everyone, and just the stress of not knowing what the future would hold...things lost their fun.
More on all of that to come :)
